BSLA: Regional Development Workshop in Moldova

A 2nd Building Strong Library Associations workshop was held in Moldova April 15-16 2013 for Board members and Library Association of Moldova (LAM) regional representatives. The BSLA programme in Moldova is implemented in partnership with Novateca, the Global Libraries programme in Moldova, and IREX. IFLA trainer Winnie Vitzansky led the workshop.

BSLA: Swedish Library Association and Kenya Library Association in close cooperation

In August 2012, during the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Helsinki, the Swedish Library Association and Kenya Library Association signed a five year cooperation agreement.

Moldova holds first workshop in new BSLA project

In partnership with Novateca, the Global Libraries programme in Moldova, and IREX, IFLA has launched a new Building Strong Library Associations programme country project in Moldova. The project started in November 2012, and will continue until November 2013.

Project report: Regional cooperation in South East Europe: Challenge and opportunity, Croatian Library Association

The project, "Regional cooperation: challenge and opportunity" aimed to continue the implementation of new policies and activities and to foster the collaboration and networking of library professionals in the region of South East Europe, especially in library leadership, fundraising, and advocacy. The project also trained 12 trainers in leadership and advocacy, who will be able to operate as library advocates on both national and regional level.

Project Report: Leadership Development for Executive Board Members and Aspiring Leaders of Vietnamese Library Association, Vietnam

The Vietnamese Library Association (VLA) is Vietnam’s first and official national professional organization established since 2006 to promote the mutual professional interests of library and information professionals and other library workers in Vietnam. The VLA currently has about 6,000 members who are working in 1,500 libraries of different types all over the country.

BSLA: Workshop in Spain reaches 12 associations from across the country

FESABID, the umbrella organisation for library associations in Spain, organised a Building Strong Library Associations workshop in October 2012 for 12 associations from across Spain. The workshop was delivered by Felipe Martinez (Mexico), Governing Board member and BSLA core trainer for the country project in Peru.

IFLA ALP Project report: Regional Cooperation: Challenge and Opportunity

As the part of the 2012 IFLA ALP project for the Emerging and Transition region, Regional cooperation: challenges and opportunities, the first two-day workshop was held July 2-3 2012 at the National and University Library in Zagreb.

BSLA sessions in Helsinki share results, impact from the first two years of the programme

Representatives from all six of the first country projects as part of the Building Strong Library Associations (BSLA) programme presented their results and impact following the first two years of the programme at a special session at the IFLA Conference in Helsinki in August 2012. A second session provided an introduction to ALP and BSLA, and shared some of the other ways BSLA has been implemented around the world including video conferences, regional train the trainer workshops, additional country projects in Nepal, and a workshop for association presidents in Kenya.

Announcement: Building Strong Library Associations Impact Report 2012

Library associations are key institutions in the library and information sector around the world. Library associations are advocates for equitable access to information, and help to build strong, sustainable library communities by improving services for library users, and supporting development of the profession. The IFLA Building Strong Library Associations Programme, launched in 2010, offers a strategic and coordinated approach to capacity building and sustainability of library associations. This report highlights the first six country projects undertaken between 2010 and 2012.

BSLA Ukraine: Workshop in Ukrainian city Dnipropetrovs’k

On April 25, 2012, 45 Dnipropetrovs’k librarians participated in the workshop on library associations’ role in providing an ethical framework for professional practice. The workshop was organized by the Ukrainian Library Association in partnership with Dnipropetrovs’k Library Association, Dnipropetrovs’k Regional Library, the U.S. Embassy and Bibliomist program.
