NOIR SIG programme in Gothenburg

By Kelly Moore

The IFLA National Organisations and International Relations Special Interest Group (NOIR SIG) will be holding a programme at the 2010 IFLA Congress in Gothenburg.  The session will take place on Friday 13 August, 13.45-15.45 (1:45-3:45pm) in room F1-2 at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre.

The programme will be composed of 3 parts:

  • a business meeting
  • an update on activities in a few of the key areas determined at the last meeting in Milan
  • and an open discussion

During the business portion of the meeting, we will discuss succession planning for the leadership of the SIG.  Ideally, we will find a co-convenor who is able to take on some activities for the coming year, and who may assume leadership as Convenor from August 2011.

The update on activities will include a report from Peter Lor on his survey of international activities taking place in national libraries, and an introduction by Kjell Nilsson to the checklists for international cooperation used by the Swedish National Library (the checklists are now available on the NOIR SIG webpage)

The open discussion is an opportunity for us to consider how to advance some of the other topics identified during our workshop in Milan, with particular focus on “building the case for international activities” : how to address those people in our organizations (colleagues, managers, members) who might question the need for engaging at an international level.  Please come prepared to share your own experiences or concerns with this issue.  At the end of the session, we should have a new reference tool:  a strong and compelling list of reasons why national-level institutions and organisations need to be active participants in international activities.

I look forward to seeing you all in Göteborg!
