Partnerships
Among the main tasks of PAC are:
- raising awareness on preservation problems;
- disseminating relevant information
All actions may benefit from cooperative efforts.
Collaboration
PAC works in collaboration with IFLA's:
Partnerships
PAC also works in partnership with various associations, such as:
ABINIA
Abinia is the Asociación de Bibliotecas Nacionales de Iberoamérica. In 2000, PAC and ABINIA worked together on a survey focusing on preservation in Latin America. In November 2002, at the XIIIth General Meeting of ABINIA, in Rio, it was decided that PAC network in Latin America would be re-organized. As a result, three other PAC Centres have been created in Brasil, Chile and Trinidad and Tobago in addition to the PAC Centre that already existed in Caracas.
ACURIL
The Association of Caribbean University, Research and Institutional Libraries (ACURIL) originated as part of a movement for Caribbean cooperation at the university level. One of its main objectives is to facilitate development and use of libraries, archives, and information services, and the identification, collection and preservation of information resources in support of the whole range of intellectual and educational endeavors throughout the Caribbean area. PAC co-organized the preparation of the workshop about natural disasters (more particularly about hurricanes) held in Trinidad & Tobago, on 21-22 May 2004, before the annual conference of ACURIL.
CLIR (Council on Library and Information Resources)
PAC benefits from the constant support of CLIR without which the publication of "International Preservation issues n° 1: Principles for the Care and Handling of Library Material" and "International Preservation Issues n°4: A Blue Shield for our Endangered Cultural Heritage" would not have been possible. PAC Director is a member of CLIR Advisory Board for the web-based training tutorial on preservation and conservation. Funded by the Henry Luce Foundation, the tutorial is targeted toward libraries and archives in Southeast Asia.
EPA (Ecole du Patrimoine Africain)
PAC and EPA work in collaboration on preservation of library documents in Africa.
ICA (International Council on Archives)
PAC cooperates with ICA at three different levels:
- CPTE (Committee on Preservation in Temperate Climates)
- ICBS (International Committee of the Blue Shield)
ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property)
ICCROM is an intergovernmental organization (IGO) dedicated to the conservation of cultural heritage. It exists to serve the international community as represented by its Member States, which currently number more than 110.
On the other hand, ICCROM has a consultative status with ICBS.
ICOM (International Council of Museums)
The International Council of Museums is an international organisation of museums and museum professionals which is committed to the conservation, continuation and communication to society of the world's natural and cultural heritage, present and future, tangible and intangible.

ICBS (The International Committee of the Blue Shield)
ICOM is one of the four founder-members of ICBS.
ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites)
ICOMOS is an international non-governmental organization of professionals, dedicated to the conservation of the world's historic monuments and sites. ICOMOS provides a forum for professional dialogue and a vehicle for the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of information on conservation principles, techniques, and policies.
It is also one of the four founder-members of ICBS.
LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche)

Campaign for the use of permanent paper
Libraries have to face the unavoidable decay of their holdings, due to the acidity of the paper manufactured since 1850. It is obvious that deacidification, microfilming and digitisation programmes cannot entirely prevent the loss of a large part of our written cultural and scientific heritage. More and more paper manufacturers are producing acid-free papers and international standards for "permanent paper" now exist (ANSI/NISO Z3948-1992, ISO 9706). The use of acid-free paper can ensure the permanence of publications for centuries and PAC is actively supporting all actions in favour of the extensive use of permanent paper: a resolution to use permanent paper was approved by UNESCO in 1997.
