Códigos de Ética Profesionales para Bibliotecarios

Antecedentes

Los bibliotecarios de todo el mundo están conscientes de las implicaciones éticas de su profesión. En más de 60 países las asociaciones bibliotecarias han desarrollado y aprobado un código de ética nacional para los bibliotecarios. Sin embargo, no existía un documento a nivel internacional adoptado por la IFLA hasta el año 2012.

Durante 2010 y 2012 un grupo de trabajo del Comité de Libre Acceso a la Información y Libertad de Expresión (FAIFE por sus siglas en inglés) redactó y revisó ampliamente un código de ética internacional para los bibliotecarios y otros trabajadores de la información. Cientos de comentarios a este trabajo fueron recibidos de miembros y de no miembros de la IFLA, por lo que se preparó una versión final para ser aprobada por la Junta de Gobierno de la IFLA. El “Código de Ética de la IFLA para Bibliotecario y Otros Trabajadores de la Información” fue aprobado en agosto de 2012.

El Código se presenta en dos versiones: una versión larga y exhaustiva, y una short version de referencia rápida.

El Código de Ética de la IFLA ha sido traducido a diferentes idiomas para que esté disponible en tantas partes del mundo como sea posible.

Nota: El grupo de trabajo esta conformado por 5 miembros de 5 países quienes son miembros del Comité de Libre Acceso a la Información y Libertad de Expresión (FAIFE por sus siglas en inglés): Loida Garcia-Febo, Anne Hustad, Hermann Rosch, Paul Sturges y Amelie Vallotton.

Códigos de Ética Nacionales para Bibliotecarios (por países)

El Comité de Libre Acceso a la Información y Libertad de Expresión (FAIFE por sus siglas en inglés) ha recopilado aproximadamente 40 códigos de ética para bibliotecarios de todo el mundo. Estas directrices habitualmente son adoptadas por la biblioteca nacional o por las asociaciones bibliotecarias, o bien en algunos casos implementados por agencias gubernamentales. La recopilación será complementada y actualizada sucesivamente.
