The new website 2008-2009

IFLA Website Project

8 May 2008

In January 2008, our website project was launched. The project was kicked off by the inaugural meeting of an expert panel at IFLA HQ. Thanks to the advice of these experts a roadmap which forms the main basis of the project was devised.

People involved

Fiona Bradley, on secondment from the University of Technology Sydney, is the project lead and is working on this together with Peter Lor, Cynthia Mouanda, acting as Project Manager, and Simon Lemstra our current interim Webmaster.

In order to ensure that our users’ requirements are met, a small user group made up of representatives from the 8 divisions and core activities has been formed. They will be regularly consulted to ensure that the new website is both user friendly and in keeping with their specifications.

Current status

The project is well on its way. The results of a snap website survey on IFLA-L in January have been compiled and evaluated. The responses provided us with useful information about how the website is viewed and used, but we are aware of the survey's limitations and further in-depth consultation to supplement these results will be undertaken.

We are happy to report that the project scoping and plan was completed in March 2008.

Main goals

Integral to this plan are content and user analyses, language capabilities as well as technical and training considerations. This includes consideration of the needs of the visually impaired users and users with low bandwidth. With the new website, we aim to provide new communication tools, improve navigation, and promote IFLA’s activities and events.

Selected management system

After much consideration Drupal has been selected as the Content Management System due to its multilingual capabilities, standards, workflow and ease of use.

Coming...

Request for Proposals were sent out to graphic design and navigations specialists. Meetings have been arranged and we hope to be in a position to select the Graphic Design experts shortly.
