I would welcome the opportunity to serve as a member of "IFLA Governing Board" for the second term 2005 to 2007, and it will be a unique chance to express my years of experience in leading libraries through these rapid changes, budget challenges and organization renewal, especially within the IT community.

I will have a wonderful opportunity to experience and help contribute to some positive changes in librarianship worldwide, as I am a firm believer in the advocacy role of "IFLA" for access to information, which enrich our lives and our world.

My hybrid experience as a Cataloguer, then Documentation officer, then STI specialist, then petroleum information expert, then medical information advisor, then chairing "ACML" which represents more than 20 international vendors, gave me a general view of the developments of the information industry from several aspects of processing, specially from the views of librarianship.

All, will lead to giving ambitious objectives during my sharing in "IFLA Governing Board", concentrating specially on:
  1. The improvement of the image of libraries and librarians as forward thinkers doing relevant and value added work, to develop a dynamic presence on the world information scene.
  2. Ensuring that "IFLA" can function more effectively in international official languages.
  3. Adopt the appearance of libraries as part of the web by using "@lib.org" for all libraries worldwide, and commit to insure that "IFLA" continues to be a relevancy and viable organization in the 21st century.
  4. Challenge more than ever to find creative ways for IFLA to bring quality and cost effective services to libraries in rural communities.
  5. Strength the position of libraries and "IFLA" to held a unique position in our societies, as librarians do play a vital role on any exploration team enabling breakthrough and real time solutions.
  6. Continue my role in creating new opportunities for interaction between "IFLA" members, personal members and diverse membership. Also, continue the efforts to Increase the financial resources of IFLA by creating "IFLA On Line Data Base" for all IFLA publications, reports, studies, conferences papers ...Etc. from 1950 up to now.
  7. Create projects to facilitate the joining of IT activities, to decrease the information gap between east and west, developing and developed countries and organizations.
  8. Concentrate on information literacy, which is a concept that does not just apply to individuals, it has considerable significance and relevance to institutions, and to all sectors of society.
There's a general presumption, a fair one I believe, that if all sectors of a nation's society become more information literate, then the economy of the country, the quality of public policy decisions, and the quality of life of all individuals will improve concomitantly.
