Manifesto for action on the Governing Board
I have two dreams for libraries and librarians and for the past few years I have been doing my best to make them both come true.
The first one is to facilitate, by means of libraries, universal access to information and knowledge all over the world, in the respect of the individual's identity, cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as his/her freedom of access and expression.
To this end, I want to consolidate and develop the position of IFLA and libraries in the context of the implementation of WSIS and the follow-up process. We are at the heart of the information society.
The second one is to safeguard our cultural heritage - in particular by promoting risk preparedness and training experts, both at the national and regional levels in order to prevent, control and recover from disasters. With this aim in view, I want to develop co-operation with other bodies involved, such as UNESCO, ICA, ICOM, ICOMOS.
As for IFLA itself, I want to improve and encourage the multilingual and multicultural aspect of the institution, with more translations of important texts as well as enhanced communications at the annual conference.
