- Implement IFLA's strategic plan, which elucidates the role and objectives of the organisation.
- Concentrate IFLA's work on the basis of the objectives set for its activities.
- Continue the work commenced to reinforce IFLA's finances and improve its financial routines.
- Continue the work commenced to achieve a continuous improvement of IFLA's administration.
- Carry out follow-up assessments of the organisation's activities.
- Develop IFLA's networking with other library organisations and induce IFLA to assume the role of co-ordinator in different contexts.
- Develop IFLA's role as a disseminator of information.
- Assist IFLA in its efforts to take the initiative, play a leading and visible role, and, through intensive lobbying, exert an influence in the international arena.
- Assist IFLA in its efforts to work for democracy, freedom of expression and global solidarity, in order to develop library activities in all parts of the world.
