Towards an actual cultural and a linguistic diversity within IFLA

Alongside with my commitment to sustain:
  • the President's action, on the basis of her programme "Libraries on the Agenda",
  • the development of Core Activities,
  • the work of Sections and Divisions,
  • the work of IFLA Headquarters team.
I am hereby applying for a place on the Governing Board of our Federation with the wish that I may help achieving two objectives:
  • To enforce an actual cultural diversity within IFLA through:
    • a multilingualism that would be both more real and in better keeping with the internal functioning and practice, which implies that we should allow specific ressources for that purpose,
    • a more balanced representation of all continents in IFLA various bodies;
  • To bring further what has already been done by IFLA in favour of a more active participation of its members in professional and social discussions within the Federation and also in the process of defining orientations and strategic positions.
These are fundamental prerequisites if we are to convince an increased number of associations and institutions, in an increased number of countries, into becoming IFLA members, and thus to widen its influence and its ability to defend and speak for libraries and other information institutions.
