I respectfully offer my candidacy for election to the IFLA Governing Board.
I have been involved at IFLA for the last twelve years first as a simple Conference participant, then as a member of the Management and Marketing Section, of which I have been the chair for 4 years. I have been member of the Governing Board for the last two years and I really appreciated this experience. I wish to contribute for two more years since I have still many things to say.
My objectives will be:
- IFLA Conference in Québec (2008): as a member of the local organization committee for this important event, I would be happy to stay on the Governing Board and to serve as a liaison with the local committee.
- The visibility of libraries and IFLA: since I started working with IFLA, I have tried to demonstrate the importance of marketing as a development tool for libraries. Libraries are playing a very important role in society, but this role is not always understood. I hope to continue pursuing this idea with the Board.
- Multilinguism: in order for IFLA to play fully its role on the international scene and to make sure every member feels welcome, the Association needs to be able to use as often as possible all its official languages. As a French-speaking person living in a country where at least two official languages are used, I am sensitive to this idea of multilinguism. Although internal resources are not always available, we can sometimes find external resources for this purpose. I would like to bring this idea to the Board.
- Education: as a professor and a researcher, I believe that better practice of the profession depends on an advanced level of education, based on needs evaluation. I also hope to contribute to the Board on this issue.
-
Libraries for Peace: at a time when the international situation is not easy, I would like to see libraries all over the world serve the cause of peace. Basically, librarianship is a humanistic profession which can serve peace. It seeks better access to information, and this leads naturally to better understanding among cultures. If IFLA - through its Governing Board - wishes to play a role in building a better world, I would like to bring my contribution.
