Background

GBV, Gemeinsamer Bibliotheksverbund, is a regional network of academic libraries of seven states in Germany (Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thueringen. The consortium is financed by the states. Participants are about 200 academic libraries, but 5 public libraries are partners as well. The holdings of the database are more than 9.000.000 titles, the holdings about 20 billion items. There is a strong emphasis on on-line document delivery and electronic publications.
