Education and Training Section – off-site session

Theme: "Recognition of qualifications and quality of LIS education: the Bologna process challenges in a changing world"

As part of the 75th IFLA General Conference & Assembly, the Education and Training Section is planning to organise an off-site whole day session at the Department of History and Historical Documentation Studies – University of Milan. This event represents a great occasion for LIS educators and professionals to discuss, share knowledge and learn more about Bologna process approach to recognition and quality of LIS education, trying to compare with different approaches to the problem from other Areas. Three invited speakers will be representative of European Association for Library & Information Education and Research (EUCLID), The Asia-Pacific Conference on Library and Information Education and Practice (ALIEP) and Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE).

The Session try to stimulate a brainstorming on questions as: What are the implications of internationalisation and transnational courses for recognition of qualifications? How might those internationalisation challenges pushes LIS education to enhancing mutual trust?

We are particularly interested in proposals which explore these topics:

  • mobility of students and recognition of qualifications,
  • accreditation and enhancement of quality of LIS education in a changing environment,
  • experiences and reflections on Bologna Process,
  • international cooperation of LIS institutions,
  • and LIS education stakeholders dialogue.

Views from students are warmly welcome.

Language of the session is English, although any IFLA approved language is welcome. However, simultaneous interpretation is not available during IFLA off-site sessions. We will ask speakers to use English for their Powerpoint presentations.
