Theme: "Changing visions, parliamentary libraries past,
present and future"
The IFLA Library and Research Services
for Parliaments Section jointly with the Library History Section invite proposals
for presentations at the Sections’ programme in Milan, 23-27
August 2009. The main theme of the Milan conference is Library create
futures: building on cultural heritage. This session will focus upon
the parliamentary libraries of the past, the present and the future. We
require up to five short presentations for our 3 hour session upon the
theme “Changing visions: parliamentary libraries past, present
and future.
We invite papers that present and analyse:
- The vision for Parliaments of the future and
what will be required of their libraries
- Current best practices in parliamentary
libraries
- How parliamentary libraries have evolved
- Preservation of the parliamentary information
of the past so that it can continue to serve present and future
generations
- Parliamentary library history
- Parliamentary library buildings
- Any other issues that might have high relevance
to library or research services vision of how to serve their
Parliaments
Submissions
Send an abstract (1 page or about 300 words), in
English, of the proposed paper and relevant biographical
information of the author(s)/presenter(s) by 13
February 2009.

The abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Standing Committee.
Successful proposals will be identified by 13 March
2009. Full papers will be due by 13 April
2009 to allow time for review of papers and preparation of
translations.
15-20 minutes will be allowed for a summary of
delivery of the paper during the joint session between the Library and
Research Services for Parliaments Section and the Library History
Section.
Please note that the expenses of attending the
Milan conference will be the responsibility of the
author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.
