IFLA Twinning Project

List of libraries seeking a partner

Below is a list of libraries which have been held on the twinning database for a considerable period of time and for whom we have been unable to identify a suitable partner. If any library is interested in entering into a twinning arrangement with any of these libraries please contact Pauline Connolly at the UAP Office or by email on pauline.connolly@bl.uk

SIM PUBLIC LIBRARY
REPUBLIC OF CONGO

    Sim public library would like to twin with any type of French-speaking library, preferably in Canada, with more resources and managers who have more experience. Feels that such a library would help theirs to be well equipped and cover the needs of the readers.

KAMPALA PUBLIC LIBRARY
UGANDA

    Kampala library is a needy library in a developing phase and does not have much to offer. Seeks to establish partnership with a public library in UK, Australia, USA, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands or South Africa. Feels that individual or group staff exchanges would be ideal but difficult to implement because of lack of funds.

    A French-speaking library wishes to twin with similar library to exchange information and publications and seeks expertise in the creation of a children's section.

    A small library seeking a partner, preferably in Canada, to exchange ideas, publications and staff.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA

    Interested in a link with another Southeast Asian, South American or European University, particularly multicampus and involved in distance education.

ST MARY'S ROMAN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
UNITED KINGDOM

    Interested to exchange any methods and experiences with other school libraries as a two way learning process. Wishes to communicate with a librarian working in a similar field but with a different cultural background. Also keen to encourage pupil to pupil contact.

    Specialising in tropics and indigenous people would like to twin with library in Northern Australia or South East Asia.

AUSTRALIA

    Interested in a partnership with another medical library for exchange of ideas and materials and to increase cultural awareness.

SALISBURY HEALTH CARE NHS TRUST
UNITED KINGDOM

    Seeks English-speaking hospital library in Europe or N America to set up reciprocal photocopying, exchange ideas about service provision, exchange information and arrange visits.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

    Seeks a French speaking public or school library, prefereably in Canada, Switzerland, France or Belgium, for exchange of information and materials and to raise cultural awareness.

RUKWA REGIONAL LIBRARY
TANZANIA

    Wishes to twin with library who would be able to assist with the provision of relevant library materials and equipment catering for all readers. These range from kindergarten pupils to graduate students and include farmers and businessmen.

MOROGORO REGIONAL PUBLIC LIBRARY
TANZANIA

    Seeks a partnership with a public library from a technologically developed country. Will welcome donations of publications and equipment to assist them in meeting their goal of making the majority of their people aware of the importance of libraries.

MOSHI REGIONAL LIBRARY
TANZANIA

    Would like to twin with a library from a technologically developed country to gain experience of how they contribute to new technologies and general management of information systems. It is hoped to raise the standards and quality of services to their readers.

NJOMBE DISTRICT LIBRARY
TANZANIA

    This library seeks a partner who will be able to help them in their aims to provide accurate and up-to-date information, support lifelong education and enjoyment of reading and provide television and video facilities at a community information centre.

CENTRE DE DOCUMENTATION EN SANTE (CDS)
MOROCCO

    Would like to twin with a library specialising in health sciences, medicine, health administration education, public health, epidemology and health systems.

MWANZA REGIONAL LIBRARY
TANZANIA

    Seeks partner for exchange of ideas on general library practice, interlibrary loans, exchange of duplicate materials and catalogue records.

MASSAWA MUNICIPAL LIBRARY
ERITREA

    A community library offering services to disabled, semi-literate users. It has been established under adverse conditions and is placing emphasis on human resource development. Seeks partnership with a library from a technologically developed country.

BIBLIOTHEQUE REGIONALE DU POOL
REPUBLIC OF CONGO

    Seeking support from libraries in more developed countries in the form of book donations, advice on the processing of library materials and general exchange of information to encourage the development of the library which is used by children and adults with a wide range of literacy.

UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN
NIGERIA

    A library specialising in sciences, technology and social sciences seeks a partnership with a high standard academic library from a technologically developed country holding similar subject matter.

WROCLAW UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
POLAND

    Interested in forming a relationship with a similar library, preferably in Europe, which uses developed computer technology for automation of library and information processes. They hope that the relationship will extend to exchanges and mutual visits, enabling librarians to exchange opinions and discuss professional problems.

REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN

    Seeking a partner from any geographical region who is willing to help with children's documents and cultural materials such as piano, board games, sports equipment and audio-visual materials. Would like to excange cultural ideas and arrange staff exchanges and visits.

INSTITUTE OF TEACHER EDUCATION KYAMBOGO
UGANDA

    Seeking a library from a technologically developed country, preferably Western Europe, USA, Canada, Australia or West Indies, to assist in bringing their library's knowledge of IT to a much higher standard. This library is responsible for all aspects of teacher training for the whole of Uganda.
