Newsletter Editor's
Report 2007
The Newsletter # 43 was out in January 07 and # 44 in mid June 07.
Posting in L-debate-forum to all members with links to IFLA pages where to download these issues.
Trying to give some room for reflection and debate on the theme-stuff, I tried creating a blog but nobody seemed to care writing any comments here!
The paper versions of Newsletter issue 44 were sent to all clearinghouses - and to the SC members mid June 07. No copies were sent to individuals in paper format, as I did not receive any requests this time. The proofreading was delayed and therefore the newsletter will be updated on the IFLA-pages in week 34/07.
As we don't get support anymore from my employer Biblioteksentralen to produce this newsletter after issue #44, we have decided that number # 44 will be our last number for IFLA - sorry!
I am in touch with the new editor Lesley Farmer helping her a little with the next number.
The theme for #44 was a rather special one: School Library 2.0 and Implications for the developing world?
I did not receive any articles on this theme and constructed 2 new themes on the fly: S.L. and web 2.0 - and S.L and M.I. (Multiple intelligences)
Thanks to everybody in IFLA for the cooperation with thise 4 newsletters.
I hope I will get time the next years to write some articles to the newsletter. One about how to be better working together in the new web 2.0 world is growing in my mind!
In the summer of 2009 I am perhaps taking an early retirement - and perhaps at that time, I am ready for new possibilities working again with you all in IFLA - and IASL.
It has been great fun working as en editor and even my written English were progressing, I hope!

Message from the incoming Newsletter Editor
As incoming section newsletter editor, I am very pleased to contribute to this important endeavor.
As you know, Niels Damgaard has done a marvelous job. He and I have corresponded several times about the content solicitation, production and dissemination processes. As much as possible, I hope to continue the same practices to facilitate the transition. I have asked Bruno for a membership list.
An email message has already been broadcast in terms of the deadline and theme: October 1 with the focus on Libraries for Life: Life Skills, which reflects the 2007 IFLA conference focus for our section. I will be contacting the presenters to get a “highlights” version of their talk as well as a photo. I would also like to feature a steering committee member or two for each issue, so I am asking for volunteers for the October deadline. I have asked Yuriko Nakamura to write a brief article about the IASL conference. I also want to make sure that each newsletter covers part of the strategic plan.
I hope to strengthen the relationship between IASL and our section in IFLA, and the newsletter seems to be a logical venue. I would also like to emphasize the associations within our section, so I’d like to make sure there’s an article featuring two. I’d also like to receive a copy of association publications, which I can draw upon.
At the conference, I hope that the following entities will volunteer to write for this fall issue:
- 2 new steering committee members (self-profile)
- 2 associations (news or articles)
- coverage of the conference section presenters (including picture)
- Chair’s editorial
- 1-2 articles about a section strategic plan effort
- Announcement about newsletter theme and a volunteer writer
- Photos of the conference
