Annual Report 1999

Membership of the Section and of the Standing Committee

In 1999 the IFLA Section on Serial Publications had 12 Standing Committee members from 9 countries, 1 ex-officio member from the ISSN International Centre and 4 special advisors from 3 countries. 75 national associations and institutional or personal members were registered for the Section.

Officers and Information Coordinator

Mr Hartmut Walravens (Germany) was re-elected Chair of the Section on Serial Publications [he succeeded Ms Hazel M. Woodward (UK) in 1997]. In 1999, Ms Agneta Holmenmark (Sweden) was elected Secretary and Treasurer succeeding the former Secretary, Ms Nina Khakhaleva (Russia). (Ms Khakhaleva succeeded Ms Ruth C. Carter (USA) in her position in 1997.) In addition, Ms Elizabeth Gazdag (Hungary) was put in charge of the Information Coordinator in 1999.

Projects in which the Section was involved

  • After the publication of the Spanish translation of the Section's Basic serials management handbook in 1998, the Russian and French translations were under way in 1999.
  • An on-going project in association with UAP Core Programme was updating and adding new information to the Directory of Union Catalogues (see at http://www.ifla.org/VI/2/duc/index.htm).
  • Members contributed in developing Guidelines for OPAC displays.
  • The Section was (and is) involved in the revision process of the ISBD(S).

Publications

Newsletter of the IFLA Section on Serial Pulbications No. 35, February 1999 was published. It was prepared by Ruth Carter, and was devoted to the SC meeting held in Berlin, Germany, December 3-4, 1998.

Meetings where the Section was represented

Conference in Pretoria held by Document Delivery and Interlending SC at the end of October 1999.
