TO ALL AFRICAN LIBRARIES

1. to expose mid-career professional staff to professional experience in a library environment which has well developed infrastructural facilities and/or services.
2. to encourage practical competence.
3. to foster individually motivated professional growth through exposure to centres of excellence.
4. to foster professionally rewarding relationships among peers through professional practice.

IFLA Africa Section is asking african libraries willing to welcome a staff development fellow, (SDF) to identify themselves:name of the institution, address, person responsible and field of expertised, to send these informations to the Regional Office Director, Mr Henri Sene, BP 2006 Dakar - Senegal.

It is proposed that participants (SDF) will be sponsored through a scholarship which will cover the following:

• travel costs (air travel, local travel, visa costs)
• health insurance
• accomodation and subsistence costs
• literature support

The host institutions will sponsor the participant by :

• providing practical attachment and in-service training
• providing professional support and counselling
• assisting in settling the SDF through preparatory activities such as locating suitable and affordable accommodation

The Staff Development Programme shall be agreed upon by the host library which will indicate to the staff development fellow (SDF) and the parent library the areas in which the SDF will be attached, in keeping with the SDF needs as indicated in the application form. Inputs and expected outputs shall be indicated. The SDF shall, for the duration of the programme be responsible to the host Director of Libraries.
