   
Africa Section Projects 2000 - 2001
List of approved projects by Africa Section and IFLA /ALP Programme
1. Journal of Librarianship and Information Science in Africa/Revue de Bibliothéconomie et Sciences de l'information en Afrique.
The Department of Library, Archival and Information Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, is taking charge of the production of the journal. The editorial Board met in Ibadan in July 1999. The first issue will be published in 2000.
2. Zimbabwe International Book Fair
ALP, Regional Standing Committee and Regional Office in Dakar, Senegal, had a stand at the Book Fair in Zimbabwe in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000.
3. ALP support to Join IFLA/ICA Committee for Peservation in Africa (JICPA)
The first meeting of JICPA was held in Dakar in 1996 and 1997.The other meetings in Tunisia (1998),Togo (1999), Morroco (2000).Next meeting is scheduled in South Africa (2001).
Training of trainers workshops was held in Senegal in 1997, in South Africa and Tunisia in 1998.
Experts meeting on preservation was held in Kenya in 1998.
4. Bart Nwafor Staff Development Programme
Funded by NORAD and the Norvegian Library Association through the IFLA/ALP Programme, the Bart Nwafor Staff Developmemt Programme was initiated and agreed upon by IFLA Africa Section as a way of providing south-south assistance in the important area of staff developmemt.Young professionnals coming from 12 countries have already benefited from this programme between 1997 and 2000 to train in libraries within Africa.
5. Création d'un centre de collecte et de distribution d'ouvrages scolaires de Côte d'Ivoire/Establismemt of a centre collecting and distributing school materials in Ivory Coast.
This project is runned since 2000 by the Association of libraries and documentation centres in Ivory Coast.

6. Workshop on Information and Communication Technologies in Community Rural Secondary Schools in Africa.
7. Survey on preservation of microform collections in African libraries and archives
8. Regional workshop on the evaluation for the provision of school libraries in the SCECSAL Region
9. Establishment of African Names in Cataloguing Records
