This Conference is to promote good practice in Newspaper Collection, Management and Preservation.

It is being co-Organised by the National Library of Chile, the IFLA Newspapers Section, and IFLA Core Activity on Preservation and Conservation (PAC).

Programme

The conference is to be divided into 6 themes:
  • The digital future for newspapers in Chile and Latin America (to include metadata, interoperability and publisher issues).
    El futuro digital de los periódicos en Chile y América Latina (inclusión de los metadatos, temas sobre interoperabilidad y editores).
  • The digital future for newspapers in North American and European countries.
    El futuro digital de los periódicos en los países norteamericanos y europeos.
  • The role of newspapers preservation in digitization.
    El papel de la preservación de los periódicos en la digitalización.
  • Copyright, Publishers, legal matters for newspapers.
    Derechos de autores, editores, temas legales para los periódicos.
  • The role of newspaper cataloguing in digitization.
    El papel de la catalogación de periódicos en la digitalización Introduction, Introducción
  • Education of librarians in newspaper collection management: new perspectives for the role of librarians.
    Capacitación bibliotecaria en la gestión de periódicos: nuevas perspectivas en el papel de los bibliotecarios.

This is an opportunity for all professionals who have responsibility for newspaper collections to learn more about standards, best practice and digital developments in both historic and contemporary newspapers.

Registration

There will be a registration fee of 25,000 Chilean Pesos
(48.00 USD) payable when delegates register for the Conference.
