Women's Issues Round Table

Strategic Plan, 2002 - 2003

 


Mission

The round table 'promotes the collection, research, publication and dissemination of information on the status of women in librarianship. To this end it works together with those groups within IFLA which interest include professional education and advancement within the profession.

Another concern is 'to identify discrimination in all forms, and disparities in resources, programmes and opportunities relating to women in librarianship. This concern involves working on women's professional education in developing countries, literacy, life-long learning, and , especially, access to information relevant to women.

Goals

1. Provide a forum for discussion of issues concerning women in librarianship.

2. Provide opportunities for research into the role of women in librarianship and ensure its dissemination.

3. Communicate with groups within librarianship and other information professions who have similar concerns.

3.1 Work on changing the status of the round table into a section and promote communication with professional women both within and without IFLA.

4. Promote the inclusion of women's issues in library and information education.

4.1 Continue to cooperate with other ˇ±issuesˇ± groups within IFLA, involving intellectual freedom, social responsibilities, continuing professional education and training and information technology.

5. Promote awareness of the Round Table on Women's Issues within IFLA membership.

1,2&5.1 IFLA Conference 2002, Glasgow: Open Session on the theme ˇ±Women, Democracy, and Participation in the Information Society.ˇ±

1&5.1 Publish a Newsletter twice a year both on paper and in electronic format. Continue working to include all RTWI documents in IFLANET.

3&5.1 Translate RTWI documents to several languages and procure simultaneous interpretation for Open Sessions.

1,3,6&7.1 Planning for the IFLA Conference 2003, Berlin: A Workshop and an Open Session. Planning process includes cooperation with German associations and other groups within IFLA.

1,3,6&7.2 Begin to plan for an Open Session and a Workshop/Satellite Seminar for the Conference 2004, Buenos Aires.

1,4&7.1 Enhance communication with professionals both within IFLA and in library associations, especially in developing countries

3,4,5&7.1 Work on editing and publishing the papers delivered in the RTWI programmes 1992-2001 as an IFLA publications. (Goals 3, 4, 5 and 7)
