WOMEN LIBRARIANS: THEIR WORK IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD
RTWI's program will be held on Tuesday, 24 August, from 12:30 to 15:00.
RTWI Chair Marta Terry has arranged our program for the conference in
Bangkok. Presentations will include:
- Sarla Murgai, of the University of Chattanooga (U.S.A.), who will speak on
"Motivation to Manage: a Comparative Study of the Library and Information
Science Students in the U.S.A., India, Singapore, and Japan.
- Susana Sanchez, from the University of Havana central library (Cuba). She
will present "The Contribution of Women Librarians in the Organizational
Change of University Libraries in Havana".
Everyone at the Conference is most welcome to join us for the program.
There will a business meeting of the RTWI Executive Committee
(EC) on Saturday, 21 August, from 15:00 to 17:20. New officers will be
elected at that meeting. Among topics the EC needs to discuss is RTWI's
new Action Plan for the period 2000-2001.
One potential project is conducting a survey of women actively involved in
IFLA to determine the true nature of their positions, ultimately producing
an international "snapshot" of women in the profession.
The second EC meeting will take place immediately after our program on
Tuesday. The Coordinating Board of Division VI suggests that our Action
Plan for 2000-2001 be prepared and approved by the end of the Bangkok
conference.
