Site Search IFLA This section In This Document Programme Related documents Brochures Section officers Conference coordinator Home	Metropolitan Libraries Section Conference Paris, France 24-29 September 2006 Theme: The Added Value of Public Libraries in the World of Information Programme and Proceedings The Metropolitan Libraries Section of IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions), formerly INTAMEL (International Association of Metropolitan Libraries) aims to be a platform primarily for libraries of cities with 400,000 or more inhabitants, although libraries serving wide and diverse geographical areas with the same or more population may be included, and exceptions may be made e.g. for capital cities or major conurbations with a smaller population. Members regularly exchange ideas and information on a range of professional topics which include: library networks; buildings; automation; training; research; public relations; and service to special groups. The 2006 Metlib section conference takes place in Paris from September 24th to 29th and is organized by Paris City Council and the French Librarians Association (ABF). Paris Public Libraries and ABF consider this event as an exceptional occasion of international contacts and they do hope that the programme of the Paris conference will not only come up to all delegates' expectations, but will pleasantly surprised them. Detailed Programme Monday, September 25th Opening session: addresses by Hélène Font, head of cultural affairs department, Paris City government, and Gilles Eboli, chairman of Association des bibliothécaires français (ABF) Libraries in Paris: Paris Public Libraries and some others Speakers: Jacques Van Dem Borghe, head of Bureau des bibliothèques, de la lecture publique et du multimédia (BBLPM), and Aline Girard-Billon, project leader for local cooperation Public Libraries in France Speaker: Benoît Yvert, head of Public Libraries Department, Ministry of Culture International cooperation Speakers: Lucien Scotti, director for european and international affairs, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Souad Hubert, director for european and international affairs, Bibliothèque publique d'information, et Thierry Grognet, in charge of public libraries and reading development office, Ministry of Culture A new guideline for a positive policy of customer care in Paris Speakers: Jean-Paul Brandela, Assistant deputy leader for modernization, head of the coordinating committee for customer care, and Anne-Marie Culerier, project leader for User Care Tour of the Bibliothèque administrative de la Ville de Paris (City Hall).
