About the Information Literacy Section

The primary purpose of the Information Literacy Section is to foster international cooperation in the development of information literacy education in all types of libraries and information institutions.

"To be information literate, a person must be able to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate and use effectively the needed information" (American Library Association, 1989)

"Information literacy is the adoption of appropriate information behaviour to identify, through whatever channel or medium, information well fitted to information needs, leading to wise and ethical use of information in society." (Webber & Johnston, 2003)

Each member organization is allocated a designated number of Section memberships. If your institution has already used up its allocation of free Section memberships, the cost to join the Information Literacy section is Euro 51.
