Day 2
There are a few people blogging about the Congress sessions and many of the session papers are available online. Therefore, I do not plan to comment on every session I attend. Instead I will focus on my overall experience and impressions as a first time attendee.
On arrival at the Milano Convention Centre I learned that Wi-Fi would only be available for a significant fee. IFLA was just as suprised by this revelation as the Congress delegates. In the past IFLA has always arranged free Wi-Fi access through the Congress venue or the sponsorship of a vendor. IFLA is working to rectify this and I have just learned that Wi-Fi will be available in Milano Convention Center from 12.00 Tuesday through 18.00 Thursday!
As a quick side note - I hope to see a transcript or video available online of today's afternoon session:
Copyright and other Legal Matters with Academic and Research Libraries
Libraries and mass digitisation: Intellectual property challenges
The Google Book Settlement: Love It or Leave It?
Panel:
- JONATHAN BAND (policybandwidth, Washington DC, USA),
- HERMAN SPRUIJT (International Publishers Association, Netherlands),
- Jon Orwant (Google, USA) and
- JAMES G. NEAL (Columbia University, USA)
Orphan Works finally adopted: a Dutch solution for rescuing cultural heritage
- WILMA MOSSINK (SURF Foundation, Netherlands)
Both the panel discussion and presentation by Ms. Mossink were fascinating. I will update this post with a link once something appears online.
