During 2009, IFLA language centres around the world have been busy with a major translation project. Using funds provided by the Swedish International Co-operation and Development Agency (Sida), IFLA's FAIFE Committee has co-ordinated translations of the following policy documents and training manuals:

On November 10 and 11, FAIFE Committee Member Lily Echiverri and former Committee member Barbara Ford participated in the final workshop of a year-long IFLA Internet Manifesto project in the Philippines.

Barbara Jones named new Director of Office of ALA Intellectual Freedom & executive director of the Freedom to Read Foundation

Former FAIFE Committee member and FAIFE Expert Resource person Barbara Jones has been named as the new Director of Office of Intellectual Freedom (OIF) and new executive director of the Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) at the American Library Association. IFLA congratulates Barbara on her appointment, and we look forward to continuing our strong links with the OIF in 2010 and beyond.

On November 11th IFLA Senior Policy Advisor Stuart Hamilton took part in the Minerva Conference in Jerusalem, Israel, alongside librarians from the Givat Haviva Peace Library, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and colleagues from the Van Leer Institute.

IFLA Internet Workshop in Cusco, Peru – Assessing the Impact

On October 22nd and 23rd, IFLA's FAIFE Committee held an impact assessment workshop in Cusco, Peru. The objective of the workshop was to look at the effects of a series of workshops on the IFLA Internet Manifesto that took place in 12 regions of Peru between March and October 2009.
