 <link>http://www.ifla.org/en/news/protection-of-cultural-heritage-principles-of-engagement-will-guide-ifla-in-emergency-situation</link>
 <description>
At its meeting in April, the IFLA Governing Board has endorsed Principles of Engagement in library-related activities in times of crisis, conflict or disaster. The Principles are part of IFLA’s Key Initiatives 2011-2012 programme: Cultural Heritage Disaster Reconstruction Programme – Culture is a basic need, a community thrives through its cultural heritage, it dies without it.

 <title>Report from the IFLA/EIFL/COAR/SPARC World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2012 Workshop, Geneva, Switzerland</title>
 <link>http://www.ifla.org/en/news/report-from-the-iflaeiflcoarsparc-world-summit-on-the-information-society-wsis-forum-2012-works</link>
 <description>
On Thursday 17th May 2012 IFLA, along with its organising partners Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL), the Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) and Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) held a workshop on open access titled &amp;#039;Rethinking the Agenda for Development: Open Access Policies and Practice&amp;#039;. This was the second year in a row that IFLA had organised a workshop on open access at WSIS, and the high-level discussion that took place showed that there is a knowledge of and an appetite for the issue amongst WSIS attendees.
