2012 RFID SURVEY

For the last four years Mick Fortune, consultant and blogger at RFID: Changing Libraries for Good, has been running an annual survey of UK libraries’ use of RFID. Last year’s survey yielded the largest response so far with a total of 122 UK library authorities completing the questionnaire.

On 5 December 2011 IFLA’s Professional Committee (PC) confirmed the establishment of the Semantic Web Special Interest Group.

This SIG resides under IFLA’s IT Section, which is to monitor the SIG carefully and report on its progress to the PC for its August meeting each year. The initial 4-year term of the SIG will be completed by the end of 2015.

Emmanuelle Bermès is the Convener of this SIG for the term 2012-2013.

The Semantic Web SIG is dedicated to gathering and disseminating information about the use of Semantic Web standards in libraries.

Created following IFLA 77th WLIC in Puerto Rico, the Semantic Web Special Interest Group (SWSIG) intends to gather professionals interested in the application of Semantic Web standards such as RDF and OWL to library data and applications, and the development of Linked Data in libraries.

I'm very pleased to announce a two hours panel slot (Wednesday, 17th August, 13.45 till 15.45, Session Room 104) during the 77th IFLA General Conference and Assembly as kick off in this field. This slot was prepared together with the IT section of IFLA, and we were able to win well-known keynote speakers from Europe, North-America and Australia who will give us an introduction into this technology and present some of their cutting-edge findings.
