Last week's massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan has caused an untold number of deaths and tremendous damage. IFLA extends our deepest sympathy and sorrow to our Japanese colleagues as they struggle to deal with the damage to their lives and their country.

Thank you very much for your message and concerns on the damages of library materials and other records caused by March 11th earthquake and tsunami. Tohoku district (north-east part of Japan), especially, Pacific coasts of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, and Ibaraki prefectures, are devastated.
