Spanish translation of the "Guidelines for libraries of government departments", almost ready

The Spanish translation of the "Guidelines for libraries of government departments" is almost ready. Its title will be "Directrices para bibliotecas gubernamentales".

It has been written by four different professionals (librarians, official translators and philologists), and will be published online after the incoming WLIC in Puerto Rico.

We hope that it would become a useful tool for the Spanish-speaking community in order to foster government libraries.

The Guidelines for Libraries of Government Departments have been translated into German language by Maria Göckeritz and Christine Wellems.
It has been published by IFLA at the IFLA Professional Reports series (no. 118).

The scale of change in the provision of information and research services since the original edition of this guide (published 1993), in particular the development of the Internet, meant that it soon became clear that a more or less complete re-write was needed, rather than simply a revision of the existing text. However, the new edition has kept to the spirit of the original, which has been a valuable tool for many.
