2011 Essay contest winners - Academic and Research Libraries

This year, the IFLA Academic and Research Libraries Section offered three free Registrations/Bursaries equivalent in the amount of €425 each to an information professional from Africa, Latin America and the Asia/Pacific region to cover the registration/bursary expenses at the 2011 IFLA Conference.

The Ulverscroft Foundation and the IFLA Libraries Serving Persons with Print Disabilities Section are pleased to announce that the Foundation has agreed to provide renewed sponsorship of 10,000 GP Pounds in 2011 to continue a best practice development programme which commenced in 2003. Since then individuals have been sponsored to visit libraries

CILIP/IFLA Aspire Award winner selected

Oksana Rozmirovska has been selected to receive the CILIP/IFLA Aspire award for a new professional in Ukraine in 2011. This award is made in memory of Bob McKee who had a strong belief in libraries as a means to a fairer and more prosperous society. This award is in the form of a grant to attend the IFLA Congress in San Juan, Puerto Rico this August. The grant is for up to 3,000 EUR and covers registration for the conference, accommodation, flights, and per diem.

Award for Estonian language interfaces for technical devices for blind people

In Estonia, Mother Tongue Day has been celebrated on March 14 since 1999. One of its aims is to highlight and award outstanding actions in the field of the Estonian language. At this year’s ceremony, the Language in Action Award for 2010 went to a working group formed by the non-profit organization Jumalalaegas and the Estonian Library for the Blind.
