Namespaces for the consolidated edition of the International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD) have been published in Resource Description Framework (RDF), the basis of the Semantic Web. The namespaces can be accessed at http://iflastandards.info/ns/isbd/.

Project goals and objectives

The ISBD consolidated edition of 2011 has positioned this IFLA standard as a core standard for universal bibliographic control, while its representation in the W3C RDF standard (work done by the ISBD/XML Study Group) enables its use within the Open Linked Data communities and enhances developments of Semantic Web bibliographic tools and services.

Goals and objectives

IFLA Cataloguing Section's ISBD Review Group approved the recommendations from its Material Designation Study Group to develop an XML Schema for the ISBD.

Mapping of RDA Content Types to ISBD Content Forms and Media Types

This table shows a mapping of all RDA content types in RDA table 6.1 (RDA section 6.9.1.3) to ISBD content forms in Area 0. ISBD media types are included only when they are unambiguous.

The mapping is provisional and subject to revision.

The Cataloguing Section will hold a satellite meeting on RDA: Foundations, Changes, and Implementations before the IFLA Conference and General Meeting in Puerto Rico. Registrations for this event are now being accepted through the website.

It will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Friday, August 12, 2011. As you look at the website, please note that the number of attendees will be limited to 100 people due to the size of the venue.

MulDiCat now available in RDF/SKOS

The Multilingual Dictionary of Cataloguing Terms and Concepts (MulDiCat) is now available as an RDF/SKOS XML file. MulDiCat contains definitions for many terms and concepts used by the library cataloguing community. Terms and definitions are available in English and a variety of other languages.
