IFLA ALP Project report: Regional Cooperation: Challenge and Opportunity

As the part of the 2012 IFLA ALP project for the Emerging and Transition region, Regional cooperation: challenges and opportunities, the first two-day workshop was held July 2-3 2012 at the National and University Library in Zagreb.

IFLA Building Strong Library Associations Impact Report and activities in Helsinki

The IFLA Building Strong Library Associations Programme, launched in 2010, offers a strategic and coordinated approach to capacity building and sustainability of library associations. We are delighted to launch a report presenting the highlights of the first six country projects undertaken between 2010 and 2012. The report will be formally launched at the IFLA Congress in Helsinki during session 138.

Announcement: Building Strong Library Associations Impact Report 2012

Library associations are key institutions in the library and information sector around the world. Library associations are advocates for equitable access to information, and help to build strong, sustainable library communities by improving services for library users, and supporting development of the profession. The IFLA Building Strong Library Associations Programme, launched in 2010, offers a strategic and coordinated approach to capacity building and sustainability of library associations. This report highlights the first six country projects undertaken between 2010 and 2012.

IFLA International Leaders Programme: Associates announced

The selection committee for the IFLA International Leaders Programme is delighted to announce the Associates selected to participate from 2012-2014. The Programme is a two-year IFLA strategic Key Initiative designed to increase the cohort of leaders who can effectively represent the wider library sector in the international arena, and to develop leaders within IFLA.

BSLA Ukraine: Workshop in Ukrainian city Dnipropetrovs’k

On April 25, 2012, 45 Dnipropetrovs’k librarians participated in the workshop on library associations’ role in providing an ethical framework for professional practice. The workshop was organized by the Ukrainian Library Association in partnership with Dnipropetrovs’k Library Association, Dnipropetrovs’k Regional Library, the U.S. Embassy and Bibliomist program.

Review meetings share successes, measure the impact of BSLA

A series of review meetings are underway in the six BSLA countries which will complete their projects this year. Since 2010, projects in Botswana, Cameroon, Lebanon, Lithuania, Peru and Ukraine have worked through a series of stakeholder meetings, needs assessments, workshops, mentoring, and other activities.

Ukraine: BSLA workshop on advocacy and partnerships

On February 7-9, 2012, 25 librarians from all parts of Ukraine participated in the BSLA workshop on advocacy and partnerships. This workshop was organized by the Ukrainian Library Association (ULA), Bibliomist program and the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.

BSLA: Associations begin sharing outcomes from the programme

Each of the first six associations participating in the Building Strong Library Associations programme has been sharing stories and outcomes from the programme. These include increases in membership, success in obtaining government grants, reading campaigns, and advocacy for IFLA’s work on Limitations and Exceptions for Copyright. Over the next few months, IFLA will be sharing more outcomes, reports, and impact as the projects are evaluated.
