Ukraine: BSLA workshop on advocacy and partnerships

On February 7-9, 2012, 25 librarians from all parts of Ukraine participated in the BSLA workshop on advocacy and partnerships. This workshop was organized by the Ukrainian Library Association (ULA), Bibliomist program and the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.

BSLA: Associations begin sharing outcomes from the programme

Each of the first six associations participating in the Building Strong Library Associations programme has been sharing stories and outcomes from the programme. These include increases in membership, success in obtaining government grants, reading campaigns, and advocacy for IFLA’s work on Limitations and Exceptions for Copyright. Over the next few months, IFLA will be sharing more outcomes, reports, and impact as the projects are evaluated.

Bangladesh: Second information literacy workshop

The ALP small project on health information literacy in Bangladesh continues with the second phase of the project, a workshop for researchers, faculty and health students. The workshop was held February 12-13 2012 and included participants from several institutions across the country.

An IFLA first: BSLA workshop in Saudia Arabia delivered by videoconference

Following the first regional train-the-trainers workshop for Arab-Speaking countries in March 2011, a number of cascade activities have taken place. Two highlights of these activities are: Building Strong Library Associations presentation at the AFLI Annual Conference, Khartoum Sudan, and a workshop by videoconference for librarians in Saudi Arabia.

Library Associations share successes and experiences at first IFLA Building Strong Library Associations mini-congress in Berlin

At the first-ever IFLA BSLA mini-congress in Berlin Germany February 23-24 2012, representatives of IFLA BSLA country projects from Botswana, Cameroon, Lebanon, Lithuania, Nepal, Peru and Ukraine shared their success stories, and solutions to challenges that cut across borders. Strategies to engage with politicians, stakeholders, and to sustain associations into the future were discussed by all country representatives.

IFLA Building Strong Library Associations mini-congress, Berlin Germany, February 23-24 2012

Representatives from BSLA country projects will meet in Berlin, Germany on February 23-24 for the first ever BSLA mini-congress. The IFLA Management of Library Associations Section (MLAS) midterm meeting will be held following this meeting from February 24-25.

Ukraine: Latest cascade workshops reach 70 librarians

In late 2011, the Ukraine Library Association organised a number of cascade workshops as part of the Building Strong Library Associations programme. The workshops, in Kyiv, followed a series of cascade activities including workshops at the 2011 conference in Crimea and in Kharkiv.

Cameroon: BSLA second workshop raises visibility of a young association

The IFLA BSLA Programme, launched in 2010, is taking shape and making an impact on the information profession in Cameroon. The first training, successfully organized in January 2011, focused on Modules 1&2 of the BSLA training packages. The first workshop resulted in the re-birth of the Library Professional Association, ABADCAM, which is now active with 25 paid up members. The second BSLA workshop (Workshop-2) was successfully delivered on 17 -19 November 2011, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. This report highlights the activities and outcomes of the BSLA Cameroon Workshop 2.

ALP Small Project Report: Transparency, Good Governance and Freedom from Corruption, Serbia

In Serbia, rampant corruption is present and almost all spheres of social life are affected by it. In the process of fighting against corruption it is very important to act preventively and to educate the public through special programs. IFLA ALP selected the Serbian Library Association (SLA) project “Transparency, Good Governance and Freedom from Corruption” to be funded in 2010/2011, with which SLA was given a great opportunity to support anti-corruption campaigns in the lirary community.
