Lithuania's third Workshop in the BSLA progamme will take place from December 15 - December 16 in Birstonas, Lithuania. This time the training, with facilitator Claudia Lux, will focus on the Module "Libraries on the Agenda" Libraries on the Agenda is the advocacy module in the BSLA programme.
During 2011 the Library Association of Samoa undertook two projects funded by the IFLA ALP programme. These were a workshop and training session for the librarians of Samoa and a National Library Week.
These projects helped the Library Association of Samoa to pass on Information Literacy skills and offer the “Building Strong Library Associations” materials provided by IFLA covering libraries in organisations and libraries in society. The workshop and training sessions were attended by 56 participants representing the school, university, public and special librarians of Samoa.
The IFLA Building Strong Library Associations programme has commenced in Nepal, with the first of three scheduled workshops being held between the 7th and 9th of November 2011.
While in Kathmandu to commence the IFLA BSLA workshops with the Nepal Community Library Association, IFLA trainer Michael Robinson had the opportunity to raise awareness about the BSLA programme at a one-day conference to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of READ Nepal.
A revised and expanded version of the training module, Library Statistics for Advocacy, is now available from the IFLA Online Learning Platform. This module was designed by a working group of IFLA's Statistics and Evaluation Section.
All six countries that commenced projects as part of the IFLA Building Strong Library Association programme (BSLA) have begun to assess the impact of the programme, ahead of a mini-congress to be held with participants from the six countries in February 2012, and the completion of the projects mid-2012.
Since launching in 2010, the Building Strong Library Associations programme has been successfully rolled out in six countries, with a number of workshops and outreach activities taking place. The programme is growing, with more trainers, modules, and content.
The first workshop in Botswana as part of the Building Strong Library Associations programme was held in Gaborone from May 4-6 2011, following the Stakeholder Summit held in November 2010.
