Day by day issues of privacy and the internet are becoming more pressing for librarians as digital services in libraries continue to grow. In some cases, libraries are in a position to act in their users interests. In others, it is their role in raising awareness and understanding among users that has most value.

At WLIC 2016, the IFLA advisory committee on Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression (FAIFE) invites you to Hall E at 9:30 on Tuesday 16 August to hear more about these challenges, and debate their impact. A panel of experts will come together to present case studies concerning privacy, the internet, and libraries, before opening up for discussion.

Chaired and moderated by Martyn Wade, Chair of the FAIFE Committee, the panel includes:

  • David Greene, Electronic Frontier Foundation, United States
  • James LaRue, Office for Intellectual Freedom, American Library Association, United States
  • Fred Von Lohmann, Copyright Legal Director, Google, United States
  • Alison Macrina, Library Freedom Project, United States
  • Polly Thistlethwaite, CUNY Graduate Center, United States
  • David McMenemy, University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom
