Desarrollo Sostenible e Inclusivo a través de las Bibliotecas en América Latina y el Caribe - Convocatoria de comentarios sobre borrador de Declaración

La IFLA invita a la comunidad bibliotecaria de la región de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) a compartir sus comentarios sobre un borrador de declaración sobre bibliotecas, acceso a la información y desarrollo. Este borrador, resultado de la estrecha colaboración entre la IFLA y la Biblioteca Hernán Santa Cruz de la Comisión Económica de las Naciones Unidas para ALC, tiene como objetivo enviar un mensaje fuerte y unificado a los ministros en 2019.

Sustainable and Inclusive Development through Libraries in Latin America and the Caribbean – Call for Views on Draft Declaration

IFLA is encouraging the library community across the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region to share their views on a draft declaration on libraries, access to information and development. This, the result of close collaboration between IFLA and the Hernán Santa Cruz Library of the UN Economic Commission for LAC, aims to send a strong, unified message to ministers in 2019.

Transforming the World Together: IFLA President and Secretary General Meet with China’s Librarians

The Library Society of China’s 2018 Conference, held on 31 May – 1 June in Langfang, China, provided a rich opportunity to engage librarians from across the country in building IFLA’s Global Vision. IFLA President Glòria Pérez-Salmerón and Secretary General Gerald Leitner attended, speaking and meeting with the thousands of participants.

In an event at the UN Science, Technology and Innovation Forum (UN STI Forum), IFLA President 2015-2017 Donna Scheeder underlined the role of libraries in ensuring no-one in our cities and communities is left behind.

Practical Solutions to Global Challenges: Libraries Speak at Arab Sustainable Development Forum

Securing the Past, Shaping the Future: IFLA President Visits Moscow

The importance of access to information to achieve sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean

On 19 April, during the Second Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development in Santiago, Chile, ECLAC’s Hernán Santa Cruz Library hosted a side event in partnership with IFLA: “The importance of access to information to achieve sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean”. As a highlight of IFLA’s participation at the Forum, is the inclusion of access to information and culture in the text of the Civil Society declaration read in the afternoon of the same day.

IFLA Congratulates New Senior Staff at UNESCO

As the leading UN institution working on education, science and culture, UNESCO is a key partner for libraries. IFLA already engages with the institution across a wide variety of issues, from cultural heritage at risk to Internet universality. The announcement of four new senior appointments in key sectors – in education, culture and communications and information, as well as a new Deputy Director-General – is therefore a useful opportunity to reaffirm these relationships.

Sustainable Development Needs Smart Citizens: IFLA to Take Active Role at UN SDG Forum in Santiago

Libraries promote an inclusive model of development by giving all individuals the information they need to learn, find work, and live healthy lives. This requires the right policies not just globally, but also at the regional, national and local levels. This is the message IFLA will be bringing to the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development 2018, held in Santiago de Chile, Chile, on 17-20 April 2018.
