The 2018 High Level Political Forum (HLPF) takes place on 10-18 July 2018 at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York. This event, the highlight of the global debate on sustainable development, provides an opportunity for updates and discussion about progress towards the 2030 Agenda.

This will be the third meeting of the HLPF since the agreement of the 2030 Agenda in 2015, and will focus in particular on a number of SDGs, notably 6 (clean water and sanitation), 7 (affordable and clean energy), 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 12 (responsible consumption and production), 15 (life on land) and 17 (partnerships for the goals).

The meeting will involve not only thematic meetings focused on the SDGs mentioned, meetings focusing on the role of different stakeholder groups (higher education, local government), and reports from Member States who have volunteers to review their progress towards the 2030 Agenda.

For IFLA, this is an opportunity to share the message that libraries are partners for development, building on the experience of our members. We will also share highlights from IFLA’s International Advocacy Programme, and its Global Convening held in New York at the end of June 2018.
