The Department of Historical Research and the National Library of Myanmar, in cooperation with the Library & Archives Solutions Pte Ltd (LAAS) (formerly known as Cybrarian Ventures Pte Ltd) and LanTro (Myanmar) Co., Ltd., organized the E-Library, Archives and e-Government Conference at the National Library of Myanmar (Nay Pyi Taw) on 18 October 2019.

The Department of Historical Research and the National Library of Myanmar are currently undertaking the process of developing and improving the e-government program, interconnectivity and cooperation with international advanced libraries, as part of the effort to improve the services of the national libraries of Myanmar. With the rapid evolution in technologies and adoption of digital lifestyle, there is a need to leverage on digital technologies to put them to effective use. The conference focused on the move towards e-government with references to the transformation efforts by the libraries and archives in Singapore. The move from the reactive mode to anticipation of future trends and innovation for excellence is essential to stay relevant in the advent of technological advancements and digital lifestyles.

In his welcoming address, Director General U Aung Myint stressed the needs of the technology advancement for the national libraries in Myanmar and thanked the timely support and assistance of LAAS and LanTro (Myanmar) Co. Ltd. for holding this e-library, archives and e-government conference at Naypyidaw National Library. About 100 officials and staffs in charge of ministerial libraries and archives from various ministries attended the conference.

During the seminar, Mr Chong Meng Yang, General Manager of the Library & Archives Solutions Pte Ltd. (LAAS) presented a paper on the operations and solutions of LAAS, Mr Lee Kee Siang, Chairman LAAS and Director of NLB gave a presentation on the E-Government process and Singapore’s experience. Following that, Ms Tay Ai Cheng, Consultant LAAS, Senior Fellow NLB and Former Deputy Chief Executive NLB discussed the innovations in libraries and archives. Before closing the seminar, attendees participated in the discussion session on the related topics. They also shared their expertise and experiences. Mr Zaw Myint Oo, Director LanTro (Myanmar) delivered the closing remarks.

The discussions and lectures by the experts at the conference provided great benefits to participants who are interested and working in library and archival modernization in Myanmar to utilize the knowledge and insights gained from the conference in their respective ministries.
