For the position of Governing Board Member 2017-2019

Marwa El Sahn

As a professional librarian, I would like to join IFLA Governing Board (GB), and to become an active board member. It is great to be part of the GB team who work together in harmony to serve librarians, archivists and information specialists all over the world.  I am a firm believer in the advocacy role of IFLA, as a leading international organization representing the interests of library and information professionals.
My multilingual skills (Arabic, French & English) will enable me to play a dynamic role within the GB. This is in addition to my experiences on the national, regional and international levels that allowed me to work at the highest levels while occupying several international positions.

With my enthusiasm to work in the exciting multicultural environment of IFLA, I will work to create new projects and to maintain IFLA’s reputation as a leading industry association.

My objectives to join the IFLA GB are:

First: To create a proposal about the structure of membership fees for MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region and Africa aiming to increase the number of individuals and associations members to IFLA.

Second: To create a standing committee for MENA region to handle all activities of this region with the help of IFLA HQ & the Arabic Speaking Countries Regional Office.

Third: To propose a fund raising plan directed to the main organizations and entities in MENA region and Africa that will support IFLA in organizing more activities and projects in the region and Africa, especially training and workshops.

Fourth: To convince IFLA GB to establish a new section for Open Access and Open Source products and applications related to E-Content and Knowledge Management.

Fifth: To create a platform to standardize curricula for LIS profession that is to be regularly updated.
