First page of IFLA WSIS Report 2018At meetings of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in 2005 and 2015, governments around the world agreed on the importance of connecting libraries as a means of helping everyone to benefit from the internet.

Since these meetings, the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development has produced annual reports on implementation, drawing on the input of key stakeholders.

As an active player in the internet governance field, IFLA was invited to contribute. In our submission, we have both highlighed the welcome recognition of the value of connected libraries, but also raised concerns about new laws which could make it harder and riskier for libraries to offer public internet access.
