IFLA Division C is hosting a Webinar Series for LIS students that aims to create a place for students to share their projects, research, and ideas about different topics related to libraries.

In this webinar, three experts present their expertise on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and their impact on the international library scene:
Petra Hauke (IFLA ENSULIB Secretary) will talk about “Green and Sustainable Libraries with a special focus on SDG 13, Climate Action.” Petra Hauke, Ph.D. in Library and Information Science, serves as lecturer at the Berlin School for Library and Information Science in Berlin, Germany. Petra is currently secretary of ENSULIB, IFLA’s Environment, Sustainability and Libraries Section. She is also a founding member of the German-speaking “Green Library Network”. Loida Garcia Febo (International Library Consultant, Chair, ALA United Nations SDGs Committee, IFLA MLAS Information Coordinator) will discuss the topic “SDGs and Libraries: LIS Students contributions transforming our world.” Loida Garcia-Febo is a Puerto Rican American librarian and International Library Consultant with 24 years of experience as an expert in library services to diverse populations and human rights. President of the American Library Association 2018-2019. Garcia-Febo is worldwide known for her passion about diversity, communities, sustainability, innovation and digital transformation, library workers, library advocacy, wellness for library workers, and new librarians about which she has taught in 44 countries. In her job, she helps libraries, companies and organizations strategize programs, services and strategies in areas related to these topics and many others. Garcia-Febo has a Bachelors in Business Education, Masters in Library and Information Sciences. Garcia-Febo has a long history of service at library associations. Highlights include- At IFLA: Governing Board 2013-2017, Co-Founder of IFLA New Professionals, two-term Member/Expert resource person of the Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression Committee of IFLA (FAIFE), two-term member of the Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning Section of IFLA (CPDWL). Currently: CPDWL Advisor, Information Coordinator of the Management of Library Associations Section. Currently at ALA: Chair United Nations SDGs Committee, Chair Public Awareness Committee. Recently at ALA: Chair, Status of Women in Librarianship and Chair, ALA United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals Task Force developing a multi-year strategic plan for ALA. Born, raised, and educated in Puerto Rico, Garcia-Febo has advocated for libraries at the United Nations, the European Union Parliament, U.S. Congress, NY State Senate, NY City Hall, and on sidewalks and streets in various states in the U.S.
Kristīne Pabērza-Ramiresa (IFLA HQ, Member Engagement Officer) will discuss what knowledge and skills a librarian needs for promoting the sustainable development agenda, in particular she will touch upon Target 4.7 of the SDG 4 – Quality Education. Kristīne Pabērza-Ramiresa is Member Engagement Officer at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). In this role she works with organisations from around the world to collaboratively create the Library Map of the World – a source of country-level library statistics, a collection of stories about impactful library programmes contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and a source of information about the library field in each country. Kristīne’s passion is impact and its evaluation. She is also an experienced facilitator and instructor on community needs assessment, performance measurement and impact evaluation. Before joining IFLA, she worked at the Culture Information Systems Centre in Latvia where she managed several cultural heritage digitisation and access projects and led a longitudinal nation-wide research study on social and economic impact of public library services in Latvia.
We invite LIS students to participate in an interactive webinar and take a live survey aimed at a study of LIS Schools’ involvement in promoting SDGs.
