Key outcomes

The Governing Board met on Thursday 27 September 2022 by teleconference and discussed a wide range of issues, including:

  1. Motions from the IFLA General Assembly
IFLA members passed all the motions at the August 2022 General Assembly, and it was agreed to add these to the actions already set out in the Governing Board’s Plan for Securing IFLA’s Future, which are well underway. The various aspects included in the motion on ‘a common basis of values for IFLA’ such as core values, whistleblowing, and war and conflict shall be addressed separately.
  2. Update on the Plan for Securing IFLA’s Future
An update to the plan was reviewed, including the review of the Code of Ethics for Members of the Governing Board, finalising our Handbook, and better communication with IFLA’s volunteers and members. As one of the other items it was also noted that the interim audit will commence in October 2022.
  3. Chair of the Professional Council
The recommendation of the Professional Council to proceed with an election for a new Chair of the Professional Council was agreed and the nomination and election process will begin immediately.
  4. Travel Policy
A new travel policy, setting out key processes, practices and responsibilities for those travelling on IFLA business was approved for implementation.
  5. WLIC 2023
Fees for attending IFLA WLIC 2023 in person were finalised – watch this space for announcements about the opening of registrations! The first news on possible candidates to host our 2024 conference was received.
  6. Reports
The Governing Board welcomed reports from the Professional Council; on the Knowledge Rights 21 programme; and an update on staffing matters, including the finalisation of some policies.
  7. IFLA Representation
On advice from the Advisory Committee on Standards, the Governing Board approved an additional expert advisor– congratulations, Maja Žumer!
