The General Meeting of the Global Alliance for Literacy, a UNESCO initiative coordinated by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, brings together representatives of 29 countries which have large shares, or absolute numbers of people facing low literacy.

It will focus in particular on a strategy for the coming years, opening up a valuable possibility to ensure recognition of the role of libraries at a high level.

IFLA has been invited to attend in order ot underline the role that libraires can play in supporting the drive to improve the skills of adults and youth. We will highlight the need to integrate libraires into relevant strategies and policies.
