The IFLA Bibliography Section  held g a free webinar on Thursday 27 June 2024 to present wider perspectives about national bibliographies, using collective and comparative approaches and exploring them in various contexts.

About the webinar

Extended views about national bibliographies can provide valuable insights beyond simply recording the national cultural outputs. They can reveal new trends, provide critical insights into the choices made to established them, and situate them into wider information landscapes.

This webinar aims at exploring the vibrant world of national bibliographies within a specific cultural, regional or national context. Presented or studied collectively, or integrated into a wider portfolio of bibliographic services, the national bibliographies featured in this webinar permit to explore connections and influences, allowing to examine what drives their creation and what shapes national bibliographic practices and outputs.

About the presenters

Marian Lefferts is the Executive Manager of the Consortium of European Research Libraries (CERL). She has an MA in English Language and Literature and an MA in Medieval Studies from the University of Groningen. She worked on the International Medieval Bibliography in Leeds, the Illustrated Incunabula Short Title Catalogue for Primary Source Media (a publishing company that was later taken over by Gale). In addition to her job at CERL, Marian takes part in the LIBER Working Group for Digital Humanities and Digital Cultural Heritage and sits on the selection committees for DH2024z and the DARIAH annual event.

Sandra Gisela Martín holds a PhD in Library Science and Documentation (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina), a Master’s degree in Digital Documentation (Pompeu Fabra University, Spain), a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (UES21) and a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science and Documentation (National University of Córdoba (UNC), Argentina). She has been Director of the Library System of the Catholic University of Córdoba since 2003. She is a professor of the subjects: Information Sources and Services II, and Information Systems of the Bachelor’s Degree in Librarianship at the UNC. She teaches at the postgraduate level in several doctoral, master’s and specialization programs in the country. She is also an external consultant for the National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation (CONEAU) in the area of Libraries.

Ana Carolina Simionato Arakaki is working as Coordinator of Bibliographic Services at the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (Ibict), under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI). She is an Adjunct Professor and researcher at the Department of Information Science at Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). She holds a postdoctoral degree (2022) from the University of São Paulo (USP) in Computing, a PhD degree (2015), and a Master’s degree (2012) in Information Science from São Paulo State University “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (UNESP). Ana is leading research on metadata, linked open data, digital curation, and data management. She also serves as an ad-hoc evaluator for funding agencies and scientific journals.

Amanda Nunes Soares holds a Bachelor of Library Science at the University of Brasília (UnB). Currently she is a researcher at the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (Ibict) in the research areas of collective bibliographic catalogs, cooperative cataloging, free software, metadata, linked data, information representation and organization, Artificial Intelligence and data science.

Josina da Silva Vieira is a researcher and information scientist at the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (Ibict), working on scientific research projects associated with Artificial Intelligence and data science applied to the treatment, use and generation of new services. She holds a Master’s degree in Information Science from the Postgraduate Programme in Information Science at the Faculty of Information Science of the University of Brasília (UnB) in the line of research management, technologies and organization of information and knowledge. She is currently enrolled in the MBA program in Innovation in Information Units at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar).
