Governing Board Elections 2011-2013
Statement of Candidacy
For the position of Governing Board Member 2011-2013
Donna Scheeder (United States)
Deputy Chief Information Officer,
Congressional Research Service,
Library of Congress
Washington D.C., United States
During the past two years I have been privileged to be part of the IFLA Governing Board. I ask for your support to continue this important work. I served on the Strategic Planning Working group, which has articulated a global vision and objectives for both IFLA and our profession. We have set important objectives, and now is the time to establish programs and initiatives to empower libraries to enable their user communities to have equitable access to information; build the strategic capacity of IFLA and that of its members; transform the profile and standing of the profession; and represent the interests of IFLA's members and their users throughout the world.
I vow to fully support efforts to bring high quality programs and services to IFLA members. The Building Strong Library Associations program and the inauguration of the On-Line learning Platform are just two of the accomplishments that further this goal. I will continue to be a strong supporter of these types of efforts.
Advocacy is a critical role for IFLA. I will continue to fully support IFLA as a global voice for library associations and institutions and for the profession, and will work hard to ensure our issues are on the global agenda.
IFLA has made great strides toward becoming a more transparent and inclusive organization. Working to achieve a high degree of membership participation and engagement is critical to IFLA's future success.
As a member of the IFLA Finance committee I understand that the association must have a strong financial base to support its programs and services. I support a program of expanded membership recruitment combined with viable strategic partnerships to position IFLA to deliver on its promises to its members.
