The open session of the IFLA Regional Section for Asia and Oceania – RSCAO (organised by the Regional Standing Committee – RSCAO) plans to contribute to this year’s WLIC theme of “Libraries: Dialogue for Change”, by exploring how libraries have empowered their communities by way of creating trusted space and stimulating dialogue.

In this issue, we feature the exciting happenings at the 2018 WLIC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as well as other events in the Asia & Oceania region.
IFLA WLIC 2018 with the theme “Transform Libraries, Transform Societies”, jointly organised by IFLA, Librarians Association of Malaysia (PPM) and the National Library of Malaysia was successfully held from 24 to 30 August 2018 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
The ASEAN CAUCUS, jointly organised by the National Library of Malaysia and National Library Board, Singapore, was held on 25 August 2018. The session took place at The Plenary Theatre of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Malaysia.
Nearly 100 abstracts were received from the authors in Asia and Oceania region and beyond for the Open Session of the Asia and Oceania Section at IFLA 2018 in Kuala Lumpur in response to the theme "Libraries Transformed to Transform Their Communities (Society)".
One of my biggest professional dreams came true when I was awarded the “IFLA, ARL Grant Winner 2018” to attend the IFLA WLIC 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 24 to 30 August 2018. I have always desired to attend the IFLA Congress. Being selected for this grant was like a dream comes true for me.
In conjunction with the recent IFLA WLIC 2018 held in Kuala Lumpur, Satellite Meetings (SMs) were held throughout Malaysia and neighbouring countries either before or after the Congress. These Meetings were organized by the various IFLA Sections/Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in partnership with local host organizations.
The 26th CDNLAO Meeting was successfully held at Mingalar Thiri Hotel in Naypyitaw, Myanmar on 2 May 2018. The meeting was organized by the Department of Historical Research and National Library under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture.
IFLA 2018 Open Session of Asia and Oceania Section in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was held on 28 August 2018 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malawasysia. Room: Plenary Hall. The title is Libraries Transformed to Transform Their Communities. The attendees was around 300.
