How do libraries use digital devices on promoting reading?

Children and youth around the world have been adapting the new digital technologies such as e-readers, smart phones and tablet computers. How do libraries answer to the changes and evolution of digital culture that’s changing the reading habits of young people? What added value the technology can bring into reading? What are the challenges within infrastructure, library resources or skills, values and attitudes of the library staff, educators and parents this development poses?

IFLA Section Libraries for Children and Young Adults is looking for articles about practical implementations of using digital devices promoting reading to be published as online articles. The suggested topics could include but are not limited to

  • the utilization of tablets, mobile phones (texting, smart phones), ebook readers and other devices        
  • fully or partially online campaigns (reading portals and sites, innovative use of social media)
  • online readers’ advisory (library professionals or peers)
  • using digital means of motivation (digital badges, avatars)
  • partnerships with actors having similar interests

The reply regarding acceptance will be sent on May 9th and the final deadline of articles will be May 27th.
