The meeting will help kick start a number of key processes, including our nominations and elections, as well as budget and work planning for 2025. There are updates about the Information Futures Summit, IFLA’s finances, and decisions about the logo and theme of WLIC 2025.

In line with the IFLA Governing Board’s commitment to building transparency about its work, we’re happy to share an overview of the agenda of the meeting it will hold next week.

In particular, GB members will be discussing:

  • The launch of IFLA’s 2025 elections process, including the proposal for a pre-nominations phase. Look out for more communication subsequently about the process, and how you can get involved.
  • The latest visits to Astana ahead of WLIC 2025, as well as proposals for a logo and theme for the Congress.
  • How we can be ready for future calls for WLIC hosts, without prejudice to the results of the ongoing Congress Review process being led by the President-elect.
  • An update on the Information Futures Summit (30 September – 3 October, Brisbane), and in particular a draft of the Brisbane Declaration that we will be working on during the Summit, ten years on from IFLA’s Lyon Declaration.
  • The results of the Professional Council’s review of Special Interest Groups and how to take their work forwards, as well as recommendations around new Expert Advisors for the Committee on Standards.
  • A roadmap towards a sustainability strategy for IFLA, including of course the need to attract, retain and mobilise members and volunteers.
  • Updates on IFLA’s finances, and plans for developing IFLA’s 2025 budget and workplan.

Look out for a report from IFLA’s President Vicki McDonald following the Board meeting, and of course don’t forget to sign up for our member and volunteer townhalls – more details in the separate story.
