The Hague, Netherlands,

We are looking for a contractor to join us in crafting and implementing a new vision and look for the Library Map of the World website. We invite bidders to submit proposals for redesigning the Library Map of the World by 2 September 2024. This work is made possible by the support of Stichting IFLA Global Libraries.

IFLA’s Library Map of the World was launched in 2017 in response to the need to accurately collect and share basic data and information about the library landscape in each country. Over the past seven years, it has grown into an advocacy tool providing access to country-level library statistics from almost 150 countries and territories. Moreover, it now includes more than 30 full country profiles describing the library field in each country, and almost 60 SDG stories. These highlight impactful library programmes contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

With the Library Map of the World project IFLA aims to create awareness about the state of libraries in the world and provide data and evidence for library advocacy and planning. It communicates basic metrics that describe library service levels per country and demonstrates the impact of libraries on the lives of people in their communities and on progress towards sustainable development more broadly.

We are now ready to move to a new phase in the development of the Map, in order to maximise its own impact of the work of our field.

The purpose of redesigning the Library Map of the World is twofold:

  • Develop the potential of the Library Map of the World as a means of building an understanding of the library field,
  • Develop the visibility, potential and stronger use of the Library Map of the World as a tool for advocacy, highlighting the contribution of libraries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

We encourage bidders who can bring in the skills and imagination necessary to scope, design, and implement the next phase of the Map.

The deadline for submissions is 2 September 2024 at 17:00 CEST.
