The following projects are part of the regional approach to Building Strong Library Associations programme 2013-2016 in Latin America and the Caribbean.


National Congress of Library and Information Science (ASCOLBI)


  • Workshop on BSLA strategies implementation at the National Congress of Library and Information Science, ASCOLBI
    Implemented 2014  
  • Establish an action plan for increasing membership and people from the professional sector of librarianship in the country
    Implemented 2015        

Project objective

  • Establishing an action plan towards strong participation of Colombia at WLIC 2016 in Columbus. Creating a strategy for long-term sustainability for ASCOLBI, raise awareness of active members and promote a new image for ASCOLBI

El Salvador

National Library Association of El Salvador


  • Revitalising the National Library Association of El Salvador: training 20 key members who will encourage the new image of ABES among library community in El Salvador

Colegio de Bibliotecólogos del Perú


  • Capacity building at two regional levels: leaders to develop a culture of good practice in Libraries; and leaders to drive the creation and management of future “Decentralised Management Boards”

  • Promoting good library practices, understanding and promoting competences needed to promote alliances that promote cooperation between libraries and professionals, institutions and governments.
